A morning in the life!!

So - I do my best to get up as my alarms sounds but most often I hit snooze a few times. I'm lucky if I can squeeze a shower in before Jeremy has to get up and take one. Some mornings - like this one I hit the off button instead of snooze. Which means that as I roll over anticipating a nice bath and another chapter down in my book, enjoying the peace and quite only a morning can bring it dawns on me that it's already 7:20 a.m. - not good! Jeremy gets into the shower as I turn on the morning news and lay in bed. Not too long after that - maybe 5 min.  - Rhett is wide awake and ready for his day. Addison is quick to follow - due to the constant tackling by her brother (amist shouts of  "WAKE UP ADDIE" - in her ear) who wants more than anything to be the cause of her getting up. After a few "STOP IT RHETT"'s she resigns to get out of bed or be subject to more intense measures (swords and swinging Barbie's have not been avoided in past mornings.) She is wise to decide this should be the start of her morning. So - the kids are awake - in high demand as always and I'm laying in my bed waiting for Jeremy to emerge from the shower so I can get a few moments - if any - to myself before I begin my morning mommyhood duties.

At 7:40 - Jeremy exits the bathroom and I enter eager for a few minutes alone. I settle into the bathtub, book in hand determined to get through at least one chapter before Jeremy leaves for work. About  five minutes later Jeremy enters the bathroom to brush his teeth and do his hair leaving the door wide open for the toddler to excitedly enter and begin throwing all of the bath toys in the bathtub - amist countless "no, Rhett's" from me and Jeremy both. However, instead of taking Rhett out of the bathroom my wonderful husband (he really is wonderful - really) apparently believes that his stern commands are enough and before long all the bath toys are decorating the water and floating aimlessly in no apparent rhythm. Not only that but Rhett is now soaked and I'm frustrated. After Jeremy gets Rhett out of the bathroom not 2 minutes later Addison enters to use the restroom and ask about our day, and is careless to see that the door is not completely shut. In wanders the toddler again to reck havic in my bath water once more. After three minutes of this - kids are out, I'm in peace once more and I finish the chapter, Jeremy leaves for work, I exit the bathroom - realizing all too well what awaits me on the other side.

Who knew that two children could be SOOO needy. I only have two of them but don't miscount the fact that both of them are extremely stubborn, extremely strong-willed, and extremely high maintenance. So - I'm about to describe what awaited me as I stepped out of the bathroom this morning and pretty much every morning that I choose to not awake at the sound of the alarm. Nothing about this morning was particularly different than any other EXCEPT for the lone fact that I have not had devotions and have not had my coffee - two major "morning musts". I'm going to explain to you to the best of my recollection what was said and what was happening this morning in the realm of mommyhood.

Me: getting dressed. Addison: "MOOOOMM - (said in that whinny way that makes mom's cringe just to hear it because you know it's a "I want something now" word or an "I'm telling" word) - I'm hungry". Me: get both Rhett and Addie baked oatmeal, put on a movie and sit them down for breakfast. Then I go back into the bathroom to get ready. As I'm putting on my makeup I hear, "MOOOOMM - Rhett spilled my oatmeal all over the table." I go and clean it up. Then I go back in the bathroom to pick up where I left off. As I'm putting on my mascara I hear, "MOOOOMM - Rhett has a bead stuck in his tooth". Sure enough he had put a bead in his mouth and somehow got it stuck on his tooth - I unstuck it and headed back to the bathroom. As I'm drying my hair I hear, "MOOOOOMM - Rhett stinks - can you change his diaper?". I change the dirty diaper and proceed in drying my hair when I hear, "MOOOOOMM - Rhett went outside". This time I told Addison to go out there and play with him - at least it's summertime and the weather is such that I can allow my children to be outside at 8:15 in the morning. But it proved to be a bad decision because Rhett got into the garden, got all muddy and I had to remove a piece of grass from Rhett's foot that Addison thought was a gross dried worm - she was a little dramatic about it. Needless to say it took me awhile to get ready for the day - actually I'm still not completely ready as I write this blog entry. And speaking of writing this entry - any mom knows that with small children she can't just sit down for a block of time and write something uninterrupted. Here are a few of the things that went on while writing this blog: consoling Addison because she was watching "Fox and the Hound" and she began crying when the lady had to let go of the fox, getting after Rhett for getting into the closet and spilling green glitter all over the place, breaking up two fights between the siblings, running outside to see a "humongous" bird that was perched on top of the playhouse, helping Rhett get something out from behind the couch after hearing, "Mommy, hep peez", getting Rhett unstuck from between Addison mattress and headboard, putting on some music for them to dance to, getting down a doll from a high shelf and then tying a bow on the doll's dress.

I write this only so that one day I can look back and laugh on what my life in the mornings used to be like. I may shed a few tears as well realizing how fast time flies and how much my kids required of me each day and I'm sure I'll miss it. And even though my kids can be extremely stubborn, strong-willed and high-maintenance they are equally loving, sweet and kind and I wouldn't change them for the world. I love my job as a mom and feel blessed that I was given the opportunity and the responsibility to be one.

Me: finishing this blog entry. Addison: "MOOOMMMM - Rhett found a black marker and wrote all over my book and his leg." - I'm out!

T-ball

Addison has started T-ball and she loves it! I was a bit concerned with her in organized sports because she is so social but she has done exceptionally well for her age and only seems to get distracted every few minutes instead of every few seconds - I'm proud!! She is a good little batter and has played pitcher, first base, and third base. She is so excited when I tell her that she has a T-ball game and I'm happy that she is beginning to enjoy sports. It's also been fun because most of her team is composed of kids from our church - she enjoys playing with her friends.

Our Garden

Since Jeremy and I have moved into our house we consistently discuss the concept of a garden in the summer. We have good intentions and one year even planted a few things - however nothing grew due to a lack of attention to it on our part. I've had my doubts about gardens because they seemed to be a lot of work, and I have no idea what I am doing.

Well, this year we decided that we needed to try again and it's proved so far to be a fun process. Addison really gets into watering the plants and seeing them grow everyday. On Tuesday she ate our first garden harvest - a lone strawberry - but she said it was delicious! And my skepticism as decreased since I learned that if you plant seeds and then water them consistently they will grow - who knew?

We planted a wide variety of items in our garden - not expecting them all to even break the surface of the ground but much to our surprise everything we've planted has surfaced and continued to grow - it's been great fun to watch. Who knows if they will supply us with any fruit or vegetables but we've had fun and will continue to plant a garden in summers to come - hoping that someday we can reep the benefits of our labor.

Here are the things that are gracing our garden space at the current moment. We realize that some of these items will have to be replanted elsewhere due to the known fact that they will take over the area but for now they are all cozy and safe in our small secluded area.

Deception - Randy Alcorn

This book took me awhile to get through. I do love mysteries and stuff but for some reason it just took me awhile to really get into it. It was about a homocide detective who has issues with drinking ever since his wife died and blacks out during the murder of a college professor that he is called to investigate. While investigating he discovers things at the crime scene that belong to him. He has no recollection of killing the professor or why he would even want to - so he does what every decetive should do and follows the evidence which takes him on many twists and turns and crazy directions. It's also about his journey to find Christ and the truth. It was definately interesting and entertaining (when I had the time to actually read it).

I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of reading this summer. I have already forged through the first few chapters of another Randy Alcorn book and after this one might take a break and read something a little more classical - like Jane Eyre.

Summer Vacation #1 - Lagoon

The summer has begun and with it our first vacation has come and gone - bittersweet really - since it was taken with some of our dearest and bestest friends and we were sad to see it end. We had a really great time though and enjoyed endless laughter, rides and rides and rides, sunshine and heat, fun evenings watching strange shows (nothing naughty - just strange!) and playing many games of Rook. We feel so blessed to have truly wonderful friends and look forward to more vacations with them in the future!!
